Karl Joseph Schanzenbach
- Born: 9 Mar 1859, Binswangen - Neckarsulm - Worms
- Died: 1887, Oklahoma at age 28
General Notes:
Have never found any record of Karl "Joe" Joseph Schanzebach in Oklahoma. Note from German record book indicates he died 1887 in "Oklahoma".
Dad told me that Grandpa came to the US with his brother Joe, but he thought Joe died in Nebraska. It appears that Grandpa did not tell stories of Joe. If they came here together, then Joe, his older brother died in Oklahoma before even the first land run, then Grandpa may have been upset by the circumstances of his death and simply didnt think about it.
Remember, his death came in 1887. Oklahoma was Indian land with little or no law. Two German's who may have spoken little english, may have fallen on tought times.
A trip to the Oklahoma Historical Society in OKC in 2006 came up empty. There was one suggestion from an assistant there that I return and research the news paper from some city, but I don't recall which one.
I need to follow up on this. But there will be no death certificat and no details. Indications are that Joe never married, so likely I may never find much more than the date and location of his death.
Noted events in his life were:
• General Notes. need to research Catharina Sophia Baeuchle BAUCHLE from GM. Found some reference to her marrying someone with his name, about his 19th birthday. She would have been 14 yr older than him, so may be coincidence.
