bullet  General Notes:

Came to US first time on a cattle boat.

This story came to me from two sources, one on the boys side of the family, the other from Ida's side;
------------------------------------------------------
While living on the farm near Glenco (1893 - 1915) Eugene would go to the barber shop. One man was in the chair, several others were waiting. Eugene would announce "I'm Next"! The barber asked "what if these guys waiting decide to beat you up?"

Eugene replied "the wont beat me up."

The barber then said "yes, but they might beat ME up!"

Eugene replied "they won't beat you up before you cut my hair"
-----------------------------------------------------

Toots told me that Grandma told her that Eugene would not eat possum (he said only inferior races at that), but when times were real bad, and possum was all she had, she'd cook it real good and tell him it was coon. He ate it then without knowing the difference.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Name Change, 1917, Poteau OK. During World War I, in Southeastern Oklahoma, their likely was considerable bigottry. Being German, speaking German language and having German names may have been too unpopular for Eugene who decided to have this family name changed to the more popular, yet some how similar sounding "Johnson". Each family member kept his Given names with the exception of John William who's first name was changed to Leonard. This may have been a mishap on the part of the senior Johnson who undoubtedly struggled to remember the names of all his children.

• Oklahoma Land Run of 1889, 22 Apr 1889, Oklahoma City.

• Cimarron Land Run, 1893, Glenco, OK.

• Sold Farm At Glenco, 1915, Glenco, OK.

• Immigration, 1884, San Antonio, TX.

• Return to Germany, 1 Jun 1889, Germany.

• New Mexico Homestead, 1922, Techada, New Mexico.

• Moved to Shawnee, 1929, Shawnee, OK.
